DETROIT 187 - REVIEW EPISODES 1 AND 2

EPISODE 2 - GRADE C+

Detroit 187....episode 2 is a whole lot better than pilot..... a C+

The thrill of seeing Detroit venues - doesn't make a successful show...

They continue to make the homicide cops look bad / stupid - arresting the brother with force in a restaurant (with no "PROOF" ) - he went to work even after his brother was killed, because he needed money...if he knew about insurance policy he would have been at home or a bar drinking grey goose....

They let Goat go...even though he may have had motive - because they had no "PROOF"..
they could have taken him in for questioning...and he wouldn't have been killed

Fitch - goes it alone to arrest a possible homicide suspect - and again stands in front of the door waiting to get shot - the suspect may have seen him drive up...
and trying to clean up the shooting of his partner - instead of letting it go - it was poorly written - and something that should not have happened..

And professionals may have mispronounced Polish names - but would have not made fun -
and would have apologized - asking for correct pronunciations...oh i am forgetting this was part of the 'humor' - i just keep missing the 'humor'

It got better....but not enough to make a national audience leave - Good Wife or Parenthood - I think....

EPISODE 1 - GRADE C

Once the Detroit visuals fade into the story, and everyone is thrilled to see Detroit landmarks on TV - you are left with the story, and Detroit 187 is just an average cop show - whether anyone watches it, beyond the first episode depends on what is on other channels.

OMG...people may like Detroit 187...but from police standpoint its embarrassing and to think, a DPD Lieutenant is a consultant....????

We dont use Captain rank - that is basic ...

Police 101 - don't stand in front of a door you want to enter...especially with a homicide suspect possibly inside

No supervisor would let a PO go into a barricaded gun man situation - no way,
and if ERU - was there they would have shot the guy when he lowered the shotgun..

Throwing up??? dpd officers would have seen numerous homicides as PO - by the time you get to homicide...you shouldn't wouldn't do that....(maybe because of stench from old dead decomposing body - but not homicide).

And NEVER would you unhandcuff a homicide suspect in a hall way !!! a cop shot - that was embarrassing makes DPD look like stupid homicide investigators...AND AND
a cop get shot because of this - critically shot - that's not right.

I hope the show is a success for Detroit - $25 mill is a good investment - but I hope they tighten up the scripts and make it more realistic - while still being entertainment - but stupid is stupid and that is not entertaining or good for Detroit PD...

PS: if someone had done some 'pre search' Detroit doesn't use '1 8 7' to refer to homicide (California term) a better title - Detroit Squad 7...but that time has passed, but it seems if you are going to base a story in a city - you would use local terms...

what do you think??? leave a comment

David....

I don't think most viewers of the program care about the technicalities that you addressed....as most of the public has never been a cop.......I watched it....it was OK.....will give it another chance or two.....to see if it improves........as I said.....it was OK....not horrible....not great.......

Enjoy the day...(from California)

Luke warm cop show. Not better than Law and Order. Probably on par with the unbelieveable CSI. Why? Because the logisitics of the show did not jive and any lay person can see this. Detroit cops are one million times more cool, poised and experienced than what was portrayed. If you want this show to last, take the advice that real Detroit cops are giving you...
