DETROIT GETS NEW POLICE CHIEF, JULY 1, 2013

Detroit will get a new Police Chief today, James Craig, formerly PC of Cincinnati. He faces a formidable task.

I have met PC Craig and sent two emails to him, warning him his greatest threat is his executives,
and now - Gray Brown....

The PC can't really do much...but smoke & mirrors...The City has a financial manager, and no money.

There needs to be uniformed officers - in the precinct stations !!!!! to say no is to lie...

Chief Craig needs to open the last remaining precincts 24/7, because they are a necessary element of police-community relations...

He must close the fake mini stations, that takes away officers that need to be in precincts, handling the public reports, and show residents that DPD cares about them and their safety and needs.

The current loss of contract by the LSA will drive more of them to retirement, lessening the supervisory oversight, necessary for DOJ Compliance...

Then the DPD will have to promote more officers to supervisory roles - lessening the street officers staffing, already to low, that they can't properly respond to crimes (meaning that crimes CANNOT be solved because evidence is not being collected and reports (crime stats) aren't being taken...

DPD has had terribly low hiring standards - GED, reduced emphasis on criminal and driving records...this has caused disciplinary problems...DPD must raise hiring standards before they do mass hirings, which is now necessary because of low staffing levels..i don't know the current hiring standards, but they must include a 2 yrs college degree or military experience, plus psych screening.

Chief Craig must stand behind police officers...he must listen to them...he must ride with them....and that means getting a contract for LSA, DPOA, COA...that is fair...

He has said he favors 10 hour shifts...12 hours is unsustainable....

Officer tell me that they are getting some new uniforms, but that money has already run out - and some have two part color uniforms..!!!

DPD (Fire / EMS) officers deserve better than what has happened to them, the City is in a financial crisis and needs state and federal grant money - homeland security grants....this must be a priority...Judge Cook should order federal money to help DPD with compliance.

PS... a new Police HQ will not improve morale....officers need new equipment and training, they have greater needs than a shiny PHQ...especially - fire fighters who have crumbling, poorly maintained fire stations, with serious building violations... the words spoken by the Mayor and others that morale will be raised - was wishful thinking.......at the very least...

Flying the flag...every day...Joe and Stella Ornalik, on Appleton, in N-Dearborn Heights, display the US Flag every day - not just on holidays. Joe is a surviving wounded POW (11 months - from WW2. He landed in Casablanca, Morocco and fought in Africa and Italy and ended up a POW in Poland, taken there in jammed packed cattle trains, in the July heat, (the same trains that took Jews to their death camps). He walked from Poland to Germany as the Russian Army advanced, into the Allied Army arms, and was taken to a military hospital - " because we were so skinny". He celebrates his flag flying in the wind.

Good Luck - Detroit Police Chief Craig....

You will need it - I hope you recognize you're greatest problem, will be the inbred corruption of the DPD executives, this is what - in part - brought down former PC Jerry Oliver.

You should work... to immediately end the DOJ - Consent Decress - from 2003, that Mayor Bing said he would end, but hasn't, there has been a corruption with the process and Federal Judge Julian Cook's, failure to properly monitor the process.

You should immediately meet with DP Union leaders who want to see you succeed and need help to restore morale and pay. Also, you should upgrade the hiring standards of the DPD, because hiring new officers will be a serious need, with officers retiring, and an already low number of officers.

You should re-open all DPD Precinct - 24/7, Mayor Bing closing them for 16 hours a day, broke faith with Detroit residents and broke an important police-community relations bond. Please close the failed (Coleman Young) era 'mini stations' and put those staffers back into the precincts to better serve residents.

Dear Governor,

Kevyn Orr has many people making suggestions as to setting priorities for Detroit.

I am one of them, I am a retired DPD Sergeant and a critic of the DPD, to the extent that former PC EB Cummings gave me a duty disability retirement.

I have advocated for DPD officers and better police service to residents.

I suggest that a priority for DPD is to immediately get an agreement to use Wayne County
jail cells / medical facility. DPD has wasted millions of dollars an unnecessary medical costs for prisoners. Dr. Ross E. Tabbey, MD, FACEP - DRH Emergency Room, told me that he told DPD about wasted millions of dollars for prisoner care, that could be taken care of by a nurse triage. (313 745 3330 / 734 634 0420)...

WCE Ficano told me that he had a hand shake agreement with Kirk Lewis to use WC jail space, but never got a contract. The WC jail space to my understanding would virtually complete the DOJ - Consent Decrees that have lingered on for ten (10) years. The end of the Consent Decrees would be a morale boost for DPD officers.

The jail space and an end to the Consent Decrees would also be good for sending a message that DPD officers again can arrest those people, that need to be arrested and that no one is going to get a break because of lack of jail space.

DPD needs state and federal grant money to add officers, improve training and equipment.
Detroit is a border city and should be getting a bigger share of Homeland Security grants etc etc etc.

DPD needs to improve hiring standards, if you hire better quality applicants, you save money all down the line.

DETROIT - ROGELL GOLF COURSE TO BE A CEMETARY

DATELINE DETROIT:

Detroit, Michigan, the homicide capitol of the nation - Murder City - is running out of burial space! A once popular Rogell Golf Course, formerly owned by the City, will close May 31, and most likely will become a cemetary. The owners say that they can't afford to maintain the golf course, and residents question how much has been spent to promote the course.

So Detroit residents will be assured that even though crime is out of control, police, fire and EMS can't respond in a timely manner to emergency calls - the will have a final resting place, within the City they loved.

NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION - DEFEATS AMERICAN PEOPLE
- SHAME ON THE US SENATE ....

Today - there should be a WALL OF SHAME attached to the US Senate Building - Senators embolden by and frightened by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and other organizations, defeated legislation to require - background checks on people buying guns - a simple common sense law that would be helpful in preventing more gun massacres in this country. The NRA has said - just enforce the current laws, but they have cooperated in gutting and taking away the enforcement powers of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobbaco and Firearms, and easing of gun regulations throughout the country. God / Jesus did not give the NRA powers greater than the President or Congress, so they should stand up to the NRA and defeat them in cities, counties, states and the Congress. Americans must stand tall and proud against the NRA.

Today - there is NO - Profiles in Courage - of Senators (Republican and Democrats) standing up for the the American people, standing up to the NRA and others who have lied and mislead the public on common sense gun regulation legislation. Senators more worried about being re-elected than blood on the streets, in the malls, on high school and college campuses, in movie theatres and in city halls, voted for themselves and NOT the American People.

Shame on the NRA...Shame Shame, and on Wayne LaPierre, its spokesman - The NRA opposed common sense legislation that Presidents Reagan and Bush supported.

This is a sad day for America - the extremist have won a victory !!!
How can this not embolden - terrorist - who see a powerful organization the - NRA - defeat the will of the American people.

Today, Americans should be angry and tell their elected leaders from city halls to the US Congress, that the NRA is wrong, and we need common sense gun legislation.

BOSTON - DOMESTIC TERRORISM - TEA PARTY / REPUBLICAN FANATICS

Dear God, Bless those people that were injured and killed, in Boston, this day and protect those that still suffer.

Three dead, 140 injured and counting.

By now everyone has seen the bombings, during the Boston Marathon, acts I believe were domestic terrorism, aided and abetted by right wing fanatics, that oppose the US Government. They are the lone wolf, the militia members, the disenfranchised person who hears the siren song of right wing Tea Party / Republicans that: the government is going to come to your home to take your guns away, that President Obama is - Hitler, a Socialist, a Communist, and has no legitmate right to be President. They have other issues, and see the discontent and feed on it.

These people listen to their intellectual leaders - Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Wayne LaPierre and others who denounce the President and anyone who doesn't believe in their theory that government is a danger to their God given freedoms.

These terrorist have watched the national news nightly and seen and heard of the suicide bombers in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan who cause mass deaths and destruction, daily - they hear the news that the FBI arrest those people, in this county, who want to destroy it, seeking bombs and weapons of mass destruction. So now they know, don't seek help, use the internet, build your own bombs and use them yourself. They are smarter - no need to commit suicide, just place your bomb, walk away a safe distance, and then detonate it. It was bound to happen, the domestic terrorist has learned - do it yourself.

The Boston Marathon Massacre was not the work of one bomber - but a very small close knit group, who have watched, listened and learned.

Domestic terrorism, as it appears, on TV nightly, in other countries, may have finally come to America.
