Syria...McCains War / Putins War...NOT USA...
US Senator John McCain was vocally pushing USA into the Syrian War - until he got caught in a photo with a known terrorist in Syria.
Russian President Putin is selling arms, including assault helicopters to Syria, the same helicopters he is selling to the US Army, that we want to give to the Syrian resistance. Yes - Russia is winning in Syria.
Syria is an Arab problem, with over 100,000 civilians killed, apparently not one Arab country is willing to step forward and take the lead to stop the massacre of Arab civilians.
Saudia Arabia has US military arms, it could stop the Syrian War, but choses not to - Why?
Iraq has suffered over 100,000 deaths during our involvement there and still there is daily bombings by Muslim religious factions, that hate each other - the USA did not make a differece and we lost over 4,000 US soldiers plus over 15,00 wounded. Did we not learn a lesson. ????
Afghanistan - We are losing US soldiers, in a country that will have to negotiate with the Taliban, to end their war, we cannot win.
The Arab League must stand up and together to protect Syrian civilians, Iraqi and Afghanistan civilians, they must stop the Arab on Arab, Muslim on Muslim violence. The US military can not do that. They must use Arab soldiers to protect cilivians lives.
President Obama should not use the US military to engage in another Arab adventure. If the Arab states are not outraged by the Syrian government using deadly gas, against its citizens, then we should speak out, demand UN intervention, but make clear that the US will not again engage in an Arab conflict without direct Arab military aid.
The US is the leader of the Free World, but we cannot be the 'policeman to the world' especially when we are not wanted, no matter how bad the situation.

DETROIT POLICE - RAISE HIRING STANDARDS NOW...
Click here: Police Job Openings | Police Department | City of Detroit | www.detroitmi.gov
Low application / hiring standards for Detroit Police, will lead to problems after hiring...!!!It happened in the past...1976....1985...when Detroit did mass hirings...
These low standards showed be raised for the new Detroit Police department...
including:
minimum educational level of 2 years of college / degree or equal of military service....
no drinking driving license violations...or other serious driving violations..
no misdemeanor (serious) arrests / convictions.
Raising hiring requirements means having a better police officer - longer and with less discipline problems...
The benefit package is not up to date...may confuse applicants and lead to lawsuits if a person is hired...
Detroit Police need to hire: 500 - 1,000 new police officers, now - but can't do it without state and federal grant money, that the US Congress is resisting, givnig any federal money to Detroit.
Federal Judge Julian Cook, in charge of the DOJ Consent Decrees, should take forceful action: ordering Detroit to raise hiring standards and the Federal Government to fund the new hires, with higher standards. This action will not make up for his inactions and general lackadasical oversight, but it would be a very step in the right direction of providing quality police protection for Detroit residents, visitors and the officers themselves.

LOW WINTER SUN - AMC TV - FAILURE
Low Winter Sun...????? It should set after this episode, for Detroiters.
Does Detroit deserve a TV show that makes 'Breaking Bad' look good ??? NO -
Two 'good cops' kill a bad cop ??? No - there appears to be no good cops, only corruption, decay, abandoned housing and drug dealers in bleak Detroit, future episodes if they continue this theme, does Detroit now good, and were paying $7.5m in film incentives for this !!!!
Mark Strong, 'Frank Agnew', lives in a blighted, abandon homes area of Detroit ??
and his car still has tires on it ???? Someone should have said - I don't think anyone will believe this - even the Mayor of Detroit failed to get any real interest in getting cops to return to live in the city, with huge subsidizes..
At least in Detroit 1 8 7 - it is explained that the character is from NY - that's why he says 'soda'...but why would a successful cop - live in a decayed area. ???
Low Winter Sun shows a wrong, dirty, distasteful, ignorant side of the Detroit Police Department and Detroit that has been shown, discussed and rehashed over and over again, this AMC Show is another version that has no real redeeming social value, for Detroit or its residents.
At least Ruben Santiago-Hudson, a favorite from Castle, isn't cast as a foul mouth, yelling, out of control supervisor.
The class of police shows - that Detroit deserves even with all of its flaws and problems is - NYPD Blue, Blue Bloods, Hill Street Blues, Castle,Golden Boy, Hawaii 50, (who wouldn't want to go to Hawaii even with its crime )...where you care about the characters and the city they work in....NO Characters, so far, make you want to like them or watch them...

DETROIT - GANG SQUAD, NO...GANG INTELLIGENCE UNIT, YES
I have emailed about Gang Squad for years...
DPD Chief Napoleon put me on Gang Squad to 'educate me' because I criticized it...
here are my comments on this article...
Wrong...for Detroit Police
DPD does NOT need a Gang Squad - it does not have the officers !!!!
I have repeated stated this - Detroit needs a Gang Intelligence Unit - with former Gang Squad officers in the precincts collecting information, and teaching other officers about gangs. The information that is collected would be passed along to the GIU and diseminated to all precincts and officers, so that every officer is gang educated.
A GIU is a better more effective use of manpower - which is extremely low, so much that it may be hard in the near future for officers to protect each other, let alone the public.
Andrew Arena, was FBI, when he needed man power, he requested it...Detroit does not have that luxury, for day to day enforcement efforts. The suburbs and other law enforcement agencies can not and will not be able to supply Detroit with manpower, whenever Detroit wants it.
Mayor Bing wanted to end the fireworks, ethnic festivals etc because of manpower shortages.
Detroit Police have a real man power shortage - reconstituting the Gang Squad is a public relations - smoke and mirrors effort, that all recent police chiefs have used to make the public believe that DPD can properly protect them - they can't.
DPD needs to hire 500 - 1,000 officers - NOW, with state and federal law enforcement grants. Before they do so they must raise the hiring standards to prevent the mass hiring problems, that have previously occurred.
Speak Out...DPD needs money and manpower.
The Governor, Kevyn Orr, the Mayor and City Council, must go to Lansing and Washington and request money - so that DPD, DFD and EMS can protect the residents, the visitors and themselves - they must succed - because people are dying in the streets, in their neighborhoods, their churches and homes.

800 RAPES - DETROIT NEEDS STATE AND FEDERAL GRANT MONEY -
800 rapes - 11 detectives - 72 case files each (July 2013).
Detroit needs to hire 500 - 1,000 new police officers, now - (before that it needs to raise its hiring standards) but it can't do it without an immediate infusion of state and federal grant money (homeland security, law enforcement etc - whatever).
EFM Kevyn Orr, Governor Synder, Mayor Bing, and City Council need to go to Lansing and Washington and request grant money - to save lives. People are dying in the streets of Detroit, women are being raped, homes, churches, businesses are being broken into, people are being shot in the streets (10 in 12 hours), and Detroit Police cannot properly respond to these crimes.
I have emailed the media numerous times that - crime in Detroit is underreported! The crimes stats lie - and with xPC Godbee's disastrous decision to close precinct stations, for 'virtual precincts' it destroyed a vital police-community relations meeting point. Now that PC Craig has reopened the precincts, he needs to staff them! He needs officers in these precincts to take police reports and to meet the other needs of residents and crime victims that precincts offer.
'Boots on the ground' does not equate to servicing Detroit residents policing needs.
Detroit police can not properly respond to 'crimes in progress' let alone respond to take reports and to collect evidence, at the scene of the crime - if they can't collect evidence, they can't solve crimes - so the vortex of crime spins on and on. If their are not enough detectives to investigate rapes, there is not enough detectives to investigate, homicides, home invasions, felonious assaults, robberies, and assaults.
EFM Orr made a disastrous decision - today - to betray the Lieutenants Sergeant Association and the Detroit Fire Fighters Association by imposing pay and benefit cuts, without negotiations, after promising not to do so until the end of 2013.
This decision will effect police and fire services, by pushing members to retire. It will effect the supervisory personnel needed under the Department of Justice Consent Decrees.
The Detroit Police Department and Detroit Fire Department need HELP - to serve the public, it needs money now.
It's time for Synder and Orr to stand up - and deliver, 'bankruptcy' cannot be used as an excuse while Detroit residents are being robbed, raped and murdered.

DETROIT GETS NEW POLICE CHIEF, JULY 1, 2013
Detroit will get a new Police Chief today, James Craig, formerly PC of Cincinnati. He faces a formidable task.
I have met PC Craig and sent two emails to him, warning him his greatest threat is his executives,
and now - Gray Brown....
The PC can't really do much...but smoke & mirrors...The City has a financial manager, and no money.
There needs to be uniformed officers - in the precinct stations !!!!! to say no is to lie...
Chief Craig needs to open the last remaining precincts 24/7, because they are a necessary element of police-community relations...
He must close the fake mini stations, that takes away officers that need to be in precincts, handling the public reports, and show residents that DPD cares about them and their safety and needs.
The current loss of contract by the LSA will drive more of them to retirement, lessening the supervisory oversight, necessary for DOJ Compliance...
Then the DPD will have to promote more officers to supervisory roles - lessening the street officers staffing, already to low, that they can't properly respond to crimes (meaning that crimes CANNOT be solved because evidence is not being collected and reports (crime stats) aren't being taken...
DPD has had terribly low hiring standards - GED, reduced emphasis on criminal and driving records...this has caused disciplinary problems...DPD must raise hiring standards before they do mass hirings, which is now necessary because of low staffing levels..i don't know the current hiring standards, but they must include a 2 yrs college degree or military experience, plus psych screening.
Chief Craig must stand behind police officers...he must listen to them...he must ride with them....and that means getting a contract for LSA, DPOA, COA...that is fair...
He has said he favors 10 hour shifts...12 hours is unsustainable....
Officer tell me that they are getting some new uniforms, but that money has already run out - and some have two part color uniforms..!!!
DPD (Fire / EMS) officers deserve better than what has happened to them, the City is in a financial crisis and needs state and federal grant money - homeland security grants....this must be a priority...Judge Cook should order federal money to help DPD with compliance.
If you have any questions...contact me...

PS... a new Police HQ will not improve morale....officers need new equipment and training, they have greater needs than a shiny PHQ...especially - fire fighters who have crumbling, poorly maintained fire stations, with serious building violations... the words spoken by the Mayor and others that morale will be raised - was wishful thinking.......at the very least...

OUR FLAG - WHERE HAVE THEY GONE
Flying the flag...every day...Joe and Stella Ornalik, on Appleton, in N-Dearborn Heights, display the US Flag every day - not just on holidays. Joe is a surviving wounded POW (11 months - from WW2. He landed in Casablanca, Morocco and fought in Africa and Italy and ended up a POW in Poland, taken there in jammed packed cattle trains, in the July heat, (the same trains that took Jews to their death camps). He walked from Poland to Germany as the Russian Army advanced, into the Allied Army arms, and was taken to a military hospital - " because we were so skinny". He celebrates his flag flying in the wind.
