Michigan Open Carry Law - is wrong...
The Second Amendment does not guarantee that every citizen can carry a gun - this Amendment was written in the 1791 - 220 years ago, when war weary American's were afraid of the British, French, Canadians, Germans, Native Americans - there was no US Army, no organized militias, no state police, no local police, you had to protect your family and home by yourself, by any means necessary, it was a dangerous times.
This is a contentious issue, 220 years later - now the United States has a standing Army,National Guard, FBI, Border Patrol, state and local police etc etc etc, crime is on the rise and fear mongers are every where, disguised as politicians, private citizens, and opportunists ready to stir up trouble and make money.
Carrying a gun is a dangerous and serious undertaking and should only be done by trained professionals - I would not prevent a person from possessing a gun - in the home - or the use of it to protect the home and family, but to take the gun onto the streets - must be strictly regulated, and so should the registration and purchase of guns / weapons. {note: you are more likely to kill a family member, in the home, husband, wife, children, that a burglar}.
I am a retired Detroit Police Officer and spent eight weeks - training, shooting and learning the law on 'when to shoot'...currently to obtain a CPL, it takes eight (8) hours of supposed training to pass a required course. I have a CPL, I have been properly trained to carry a weapon and know 'when to shoot'...
I do not know all of the provisions of the Open Carry Gun Law, but restrictions include areas that a gun may not be carried open or concealed by the public, which presents, to me a 'clear and present danger' to the public at large - guns cannot be carried onto 'pistol free zones': school property, college campuses, bars, restaurants, sports arenas, churches - so a person with a lawful permit has to store the gun in their vehicle - an unsafe place to secure a gun of any kind, considering the number of breaking and entering's to motor vehicles, and especially dangerous, if other people know that a location is where - gun carrying people congregate.
The National Rifle Association is and has been irresponsible in opposing common sense laws, concerning the registration and ownership of guns - and most especially assault style weapons, most recently used to kill National Guard personnel in an IHOP, in Nevada, and responsible for hundreds of deaths in the US, Mexico and around the world. There is no need for a US resident to own a military assault weapon.
Michigan has experienced no upsurge in shootings because of 'open carry' or the easing of getting a CPL, but neither has there been a decrease in crime - but a gun, in the hands of an insufficiently trained person is a threat to the general public.

NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION - OPEN CARRY GUN TOTTERS - WRONG, FIGHT BACK
It is time that governors, legislators, Senators, House members and the President to stand up to the National Rifle Association and their lobbyists to enact a ban on assault weapons, stricter gun laws to prevent the flow of weapons to the Mexican drug cartels, sold by gun dealers along the Southwestern border and requirements to 'Open Carry' gun laws to equal the requirements of Conceal Weapons laws.
Michigan - Royal Oak, will host an Art Eats and Beats Festival, next week end, and the City has been forced by 'Open Carry' gun nuts to accept them at the Festival.
There maybe 500,000 people there and 'Open Carry' gun nuts who don't have to know how to handle, load or shoot their weapons - let alone, the ramifications of pulling or using their weapons will be roaming the streets with people who have been drinking and the heat of the day and alcohol may not mix.
'Open Carry' laws in 42 states must be amended to equal the training that those who have a concealed weapon are required to have. The 2nd Amendment was adopted in 1791 -
over 219 years ago - long before police departments and national guards - farmers had to protect themselves - it is no longer necessary for the public to openly carry guns in public. We massacred the Native Americans - we don't need more public massacres
I spent 12 weeks learning to use the weapon that the Detroit Police Department entrusted me with to protect and serve the public. It is only right that the public
be trained to use the weapons that they are allowed to carry in public.
ps: Retired law enforcement officers should be allowed to carry their weapons in all 50 states and territories, with a state - concealed weapons license.

NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION - JUST SAY YES - ASSAULT WEAPON BAN

There is no War on Guns...if so the NRA would be spending millions of dollars trying to prevent the War...depicting President Obama as an anti-American whatever, who doesn't
believe in the Constitution ...doesn't want citizens to protect themselves - from big government - let alone your neighbor (who might be white, black, brown, yellow, gay - or an alien).
People of all races are racing to buy guns - to buy bullets (that are in short supply - now) for the coming War on Guns...that President Obama as a black president will surely propose.
But what we have now is an Arms Race - the more guns you have the safer you are ....but that isn't true - 25,000 Mexicans have been killed by guns purchased in the US Southwest states and smuggled over the border - because owning a gun larger that a .38 caliber is considered a military weapon, in Mexico.
The Mexican drug cartels, Mexican gangsters have to protect themselves from the big Mexican government that is trying to eradicate them. The cartels are killing, men, women, children, musicians, politicians, judges, police officers, soldiers, anyone that stands between them and their next drug deal, and US gun dealers are aiding and abetting the cartels, apparently with no remorse, conscience or regrets - because the bottom lines is that selling guns to the Mexicans is highly highly profitable....
President Obama has enough on his agenda...but an assault weapons ban and strict enforcement of gun laws in the Southwest would provoke a fire storm of discontent - that may undermine his efforts..but it is something that Congress - must take up on their own and face down the National Rifle Association, during an election year, to save lives US and Mexican lives - The NRA should no longer be the most powerful lobby in the US - and people should no longer be allowed to buy an AK-47 or FN 5.7 (cop killer gun) and we must change the culture in America - that owning guns is a birthright - this is not 1776, the British and Indians have been defeated.
PO Huff was lost because of a 'ARMS RACE' and loose and easy access to guns (and not enough Detroit jail space)...no 10 year should have to again hear that 'dad isn't coming home' because Congress fails in its responsibility to stand up to the NRA.
